Parenting in the 21st Century

FIRST, TEACH HUMILITY. This is the advice of Dr. Leonard Saxe, a practicing family physician and psychologist to 21st Century parents. In his recent book, “The Collapse of Parenting” Dr. Saxe documents a dramatic decline in achievement and psychological health of American children in recent years; and notes the increasing evidence of parents being afraid to take a stand with their kids about responsibilities and values. He is a “back to relationship” kind of guy, urging parents to prioritize the parent-child relationship over the child-peer relationship and the child-device relationship. His book is full of exemplary advice and packed with statistics that are quite disturbing. If you are the parent of a child or teen, you will do yourself a favor to pick up his book and read it.
