“The salvation of the human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human meekness and in human responsibility… Vaciav Havel”

The HeartMath® System is a program that mediates, even reverses, the negative effects of stress on the mind body system in real time. HeartMath® has developed strategies for interrupting negative thoughts before they trigger a negative emotional reaction. In the process, we are actively engaging our innate system of intuitive knowing which expands our perception and scope of awareness. By disengaging from what is negative within us, and focusing instead on our heart and the area around our heart, we take the first step in changing neurological structures that support looping of negative thoughts and feelings. This simple change fosters the sprouting of new neuro pathways in our brain; and the more we practice, the stronger the new pathways become. Soon we find outdated, previous ways of thinking and feeling beginning to fade away.

The Eagle & the Wolf. There is a great battle that rages inside me.
One side is the soaring eagle.
Everything the eagle stands for is good and true and beautiful, and it soars above the clouds.
Even though it dips down into the valleys, It lays its eggs on the mountaintops. The other side of me is the howling wolf.
And that raging, howling wolf represents the worst that’s in me. He eats upon my downfalls and justifies himself by his presence in the pack. Who wins this great battle? The one I feed …unknown

We really do become what we think about, neurologically speaking. The science of neuro-anatomy can now demonstrate this through the use of sophisticated brain imagery devices that show how the brain behaves when we’re thinking or feeling in particular ways. The HeartMath®System provides tools that help us disengage from negative thoughts and feelings that stress our system, relieve the negative effects of stress, broaden our perspective on life and problem solving, enhance our learning process and performance, and much more. And the best thing ever is that everyone can learn and use these tools, even children.

Thank the relatively new science of neuro-cardiology for giving us a broader view of the myriad ways the heart operates and influences us.

  • The physical heart is the size of a fist, with four chambers. It beats about 72 beats a minute, more than 100,000 times a day and pumps oxygenated blood to the brain and other organs of the body. In utero, the fetus’ heart begins beating all by itself, without any signals from the central nervous system; and science does not yet know how this happens.
I thought the problems in my family were hopeless. Now I have hope in my heart…14 year old boy in a special education class in Danbury, CT
  • The biographical heart remembers everyone and everything we’ve ever loved.

  • The emotional heart holds in awareness the ones we love, and motivates us to bond with others. It also sustains actual physical wounds when we suffer hurt and loss.

  • The intelligent heart has its own mini-brain and nervous system with which to consider problems and make decisions from a place other than the brain.

  • The spiritual heart senses the meaning and purpose of life and offers wisdom and guidance.

  • The relational heart communicates with and influences other hearts and brains with whom it comes into contact.

Is Stress Getting you Down…

…the American Institute of Stress reported that 75% to 90% of all visits to health care practitioners were due to stress-related disorders; and the Mayo Clinic concluded that psychological stress was the strongest indicator of future cardiac events…from The Heart Speaks, Mimi Guarneri, M.D. FACC

Stress – The Silent Killer

The kind of stress that poses the highest risk for damaging the mind body system comes from the small, seemingly insignificant, irritations that bombard us every day. Damage, as it is occurring, is often imperceptible – this is why stress is called the silent killer. Hans Selye, M.D., researcher and author, reminds us that “It’s not stress that kills us; it is our reaction to it.”

Take Control…

The chronic stress (flight or fight) response, that is so damaging to health and limits the ability to think clearly, is within your control more than you may realize. Learning how to release negative thoughts and feelings is only part of the story.

Once achieved, sustaining a heart centered focus through the ups and downs of daily life is the real challenge
